CUT UP (PAINTING) 2014
‘Paintings are not immobile images but stills charged with movement, stills from a film that is missing.’ GIORGIO AGAMBEN
A life size, commissioned copy of the history painting ‘Bacchus and Ariadne’ by Titian is here cut up into 20 panels of equal size. Each panel understood/considered as a ‘clip’ from the ‘found film’ of Titian’s retelling of the tale of Bacchus and Ariadne. The ‘film clips’/panels can then be re-edited each time the work is shown, each time re-configuring the visual narrative and each time resisting a final reading of the work.
